Hospitality

Our goal is to make everyone feel as welcome as in their home club. Volunteers in this role will ensure all athletes, officials, and fellow volunteers who are not from the local area have the information necessary to have a good visit. This may include providing directions, answering questions about the arena or local area, recommending restaurants, listing local attractions, or generally helping with their away from home needs. Our goal is currently for this role to be more digitally focused. Volunteers do not need to have curling experience in this role. Hospitality may require volunteers before the event to welcome athletes.

Officials

The championship is a USCA-sponsored competition that will adhere to USCA regulations. Volunteers in this role will ensure all games occur according to USCA rules and regulations. Individuals in these roles must be USCA qualified officials. Training will be available prior to the event through Granite Curling Club (GCC). Curling experience is required for this role.

Timers

Timing is an important part of WCF level curling. Volunteers in this role will be responsible for managing the game clocks of an individual sheet. Individuals in this role must have completed training prior to the event. Training will be offered online through Granite Curling Club (GCC). Curling experience is preferred for this role, but not required. Timers are seated during their shifts.

Ice Crew

The ice crew assists the USCA ice technicians in simple tasks like moving rocks, sweeping snow, mopping the sheets, holding hoses, etc. Attention to detail is essential, as is being aware of equipment and ice conditions. Working on the ice can be hazardous so people need to move quickly but carefully. Individuals in this role must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Curling experience is preferred for this role, but not required.

Curling Ambassadors

One goal of this event is to promote the sport of curling. Volunteers in this role will interact with spectators during the event to educate members of the public about the rules and etiquette of curling. Individuals with curling experience are preferred for this role. This role requires individuals to be on their feet.

Volunteer Assistants

This event will have many volunteers. Individuals in this role
will help coordinate and assist their fellow volunteers. These roles include manning the volunteer sign in desk, providing water and snacks to fellow volunteers, and assisting with volunteer-related communications during the event. No curling experience is necessary for this role. Some roles in this category will be seated.

Curling Demonstrations

During the event we will have a partial ice sheet for curling demonstrations. Spectators will be permitted to try these techniques for themselves. Volunteers in this role will demonstrate and teach basic throwing and sweeping techniques to spectators. Individuals working on the ice must have previous curling experience. We may also need assistance with crowd control during the curling demonstrations, no curling experience is required. This role requires individuals to be on their feet.

FanZone Managers

The FanZone, aka The Hangar, will have two floor curling sets, multiple cornhole games, and other fun activities in a family friendly environment. Individuals in this role will oversee the activities of the area while ensuring the safety of participants and equipment. We will need individuals with and without curling experience for this role. This role requires individuals to be on their feet.

Event Set Up/Take Down

We will need assistance to set up and remove event related equipment before and after the event, likely during evenings the week prior to the competition. Lifting may be required in this role. No curling experience is necessary.

Event Outreach

We need individuals to help with reaching out to community associations, such as business groups, community calendars, and volunteer organizations. Additional roles include helping to write articles and descriptions for media and promotions and assisting with putting up posters. Curling experience may be necessary for some of the writing roles in this category. Individuals without curling experience can also assist with these tasks.
